From the first scan to the final crown, here is what the implant process looks like and how long each stage takes.

In short
- An implant usually takes three to six months from scan to crown.
- Placement is done under local anaesthetic, in about an hour.
- Brush and clean it like a natural tooth and it can last decades.
An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth with a small titanium post. Once it has healed, a crown is fitted on top. The result looks, feels and works like a natural tooth.
1. Consultation and scan
We start with an examination and a 3D scan to check the bone and plan the exact position of the implant. You receive a written plan with every step and cost.
2. Placing the implant
The implant is placed under local anaesthetic in a single appointment of about an hour. Most people describe it as easier than an extraction.
3. Healing
Over the next three to four months, the bone grows around the implant and holds it firmly in place. You can wear a temporary tooth during this time if the gap is visible.
4. The final crown
Once healed, we take a scan and fit a custom crown matched to the shade of your other teeth.
Looking after it
Brush and clean around an implant just like a natural tooth, and keep up your hygiene visits. With good care, implants can last for decades.
